The Story : Aval Peyar Tamilarasi tells a rare kind of a love story set in a village. Its boy meets girl as usual. The boy here is Jai while the girl is debutante Nandhagi.
They fall in love, but doubts and insecurities creep in when the girl is all set to leave her village to pursue higher education. What happens to their love story, how does the boy react to the imminent separation? That forms the crux of APT.
The title itself evokes curiosity, Aval Peyar Tamilarasi. It is not often in Tamil cinema [^] that one [^] gets to see titles which suggest that the heroine might be the central character in the movie. Of course, there are instances like Jaganmohini, but let’s not count those. The last such title was perhaps Poo. And, in Poo, it was not just the title that gave prominence to the female lead. The film [^] in itself revolved around the female lead. It will be interesting to see if debut director Meera Kathiravan’s Aval Peyar Tamilarasi (APT) belongs to this rare breed.

APT tells a rare kind of a love story set in a village. Director Meera Kadiravan, who has also handled the story and screenplay, has said that APT is a never before seen kind of love story in Tamil cinema. That we will have to wait and see!

This movie has a lot of significance for Jai’s career. His last two individual outings couldn’t really make much of an impact. Vaamanan was subdued while Adhe Neram Adhe Idam sank without a trace. Yes, Goa [^] has pepped up spirits, but it is Jai on his own again in APT.

Other elements to watch out for in APT will be Vijay Anthony’s music. He is perhaps scoring for a village based film for the first time [^] in his career and it will be a good [^] test of his adaptability. Meera Kadiravan has also been very optimistic about Kanja Karuppu’s comic performance which has reportedly come out very well. All in all, APT looks to be a promising and a bit different product. Let’s wait and watch how Thamizharasi fares this Friday.
